Gryffindors are red, Ravenclaws are blue . . .
Like many of you, I have loved the world of Harry Potter for a long time. When I first met my husband, Matthew, I discovered that he had never read any of the books and it soon became a priority for us to read them together. (How was he supposed to understand any of the Harry Potter references I regularly make in conversation?) Seven read-aloud novels and a year or two later, we are both big fans. That can only mean one thing when two people run a blog dedicated to coming up with creative and fun date ideas: magical date nights.
So far we’ve created date night ideas inspired by Sorcerer’s Stone and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Surprise, surprise, they have been some of the most popular date nights on our website. The Wizarding World clearly still has its fair share of fans, and for those of us who love both date night and Harry Potter that opens up a world of opportunity.
As a precursor to the several Harry Potter themed dates we still have in store (that’s a given), we wanted to make a simple Valentine's Day date inspired by the imagination of the Wizarding World. Since the fifth and sixth novels encompass the most romance, they became our stepping stone to creating this date. Those who are familiar with the turbulent romances of Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince will get all the references.
. . . no one makes my life magical like you.
Begin your Valentine’s date by delivering one (or all) of our punny Harry Potter valentines to your date. You could make a trail of them to find throughout the day—on the bathroom mirror, in the fridge, in the car, in their work bag or lunch. Or you could text them the valentines throughout the day, giving them a hint as to what awaits them in the evening.
The night of, set the mood with our well-curated playlist of Wizard Rock (yes, that is a thing that exists). Have all of your ingredients ready for making Amortentia Love Potion and Madam Puddifoot’s Confetti Cupcakes. You can download the recipes to your tablet or print them. Then, when your date arrives, craft your cocktails or mocktails and start your date with a toast.

Next up, bake the cupcakes. Don’t be afraid to get a little messy (wink). While they bake in the oven, you could read a few passages of most romantic scenes in Harry Potter or visit Pottermore and read one of the articles we suggest below. After the cupcakes are baked, frost them using our special technique to create a surprise in every bite.
Snack on the cupcakes while you watch the movie. Let your date choose their favorite, or we suggest the sixth one to go along with our Canary Darts game. You’ll finish the night off with the game and any more Harry Potter shenanigans you wish to include.
The step-by-step plan for this date is below, including all of the materials you will need and how to download our free printables.
HOW TO PRINT THIS DATE NIGHT KIT: You can print this date night kit on card-stock using your home printer. If you don’t have a decent printer, or would rather save your ink, print it at a FedEx Office or UPS store where the store employees can assist you. Cut it out using scissors or a portable paper cutter (this one is inexpensive and will make this step way faster). Then collect your materials, listed below, and get ready for sparks to fly!

This Swiss dish is no longer stuck in the 70’s. With fondue mugs, you can microwave your way to melted cheese and chocolate goodness and let the dishwasher do the clean up. Use our “Let’s Get Messy” cards to up the romance level so your fondue won’t be the only thing heating up.
