5 Date Ideas for When You Don't Want to Leave the House
/As I am writing this, we are in the midst of worldwide panic because of the coronavirus. Pretty much all public events have been cancelled, travel has been restricted, and leaving the house in general has become less and less enticing. The terrifying prospects of low-budget horror movies have somehow become realities.
In the middle of all this, I know the first thing you must be thinking: “Oh no! What about date night?”
That’s exactly what we have been thinking too. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite home date ideas (out of the many we have here on Make a Date of It) which you can enjoy in both times of panic and times of calm. After all, if you are going to be stuck at home, waiting out the pandemic, you might as well have some fun with it.
1. Channel Your Creativity
Channel your stress into creativity with Bob Ross, the king of calm. Have your very own paint-and-sip date at home, streaming videos and creating art. We’ve made a list of everything you need to get oil painting (though acrylic painting works well, too, and is much less hassle) so you can get to work on your very own masterpiece.
2. Surf the Tube
Times like these call for a good laugh. Tune into funny videos on youtube, like those on your favorite late night shows, to instantly lighten your mood. We’ve created a date night kit where you get to play games with your date along with the celebrities. Download it for FREE below, print it or do it digitally.
3. Step Up Your Movie Night
No more boring movie night! Try out one of our curated date nights that tailor activities around favorite movies, from Star Wars: The Force Awakens where you make your own Wookie Cookies, to Aladdin where you compare the movies to the classic tale, to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them where you think up a magical beast of your very own.
4. Dust off Those Board Games
Chances are you have some board games in the house that you haven’t played in awhile. Why not pull out a few of them and let the good times roll? If you are looking to expand your board game collection, we partnered with friends from around the internet to make a list of the best board games for date night, below.
5. Travel the world… from your couch
While you may be limited as to where you can travel in person, nothing stops you from exploring new places from home. Try new foods, see new art, and even tour museum exhibitions on one of our Wanderlust Dates. We’ve laid out everything you need, including recipes and links. We are currently taking suggestions for our next Wanderlust Destination.

There’s nothing like a scary story to bring two people together. This year on Halloween, after all the trick-or-treating hubbub has died down, treat yourself and your date to an evening of scary stories by candlelight.
